A Thousand Million Reasons

On April 1st, my phone decided to not hold a charge, so that was one hell of an April Fools to me. Frantically, I rushed out and purchased the latest model of iPhone. So, all new photographs will be taken by my new phone since it has WAY better specs than the old phone and digital SLR camera I was given.

So with 2 separate days off and while my kid was hanging out with friends, I took my little buddy Brodie with me up to Ensign Point and the Utah State Capitol to take pictures with the new phone. There was a peaceful protest going on, so I captured some photos of that. I left right before the storm hit, but came back later to see what else I could capture.

A few days later I went back up to the Utah State Capitol to take more photographs of the blossoms.

And right before the sunset, I went up to Ensign Peak area again to try and take pictures of the sunset.

My next day off, I hung out with Keith a little bit before dropping him off elsewhere. I walked to this filming location used in Dumb and Dumber, nearby.

Later, I walked Memory Grove that is east of the capitol.

And once again, right before the sun set, I walked up to Ensign Peak with Brodie to capture sunset photos.

In the middle of the month, I ventured south to visit family. Since it was originally in this post, it made it too long, and so I separated it into two post.

One thing I’ve noticed about my new phone, it takes photos of stars much easier than with any camera I’ve owned. So when getting home from work, I would capture photos of the trees with blossoms and flowers at night.

On the last day of April, I took Brodie out to the Great Salt Lake to see if we could find great locations to take pictures. Tip: Be careful walking on/over sandbanks (anywhere in the world), because there is wildlife everywhere!

Now some photography news…

In the middle of April, I realized that I was stressing out way too much about my photography. After thinking about it, writing it down and figuring out what it was, I had to make the hard decision to stop doing shows and no longer push my photography for 3 reasons. I mean I will ALWAYS keep taking photographs just for myself, but I have decided no more shows.

One, it is harder to sell 1 photograph, than it is to take 100 “picture perfect” photographs. With only selling one print in the 3 shows, I realized that no one is really interested in purchasing photography while out and about. You have to be in the mood beforehand.

Two, because each show has an entry fee, and with only one print sold, I lost money that I felt could have been used for my kids. Other shows I wanted to enter in and try selling my art at have much higher entry fees, which I can’t afford now because of new car and phone payments, and I wouldn’t earn my money back because the photos do not sell.

Three. I’m sure I would have figured the first two out eventually over time had things gone a little differently. But while sitting there and not really having anyone else you know ever show up or visit, I felt that I could have used that time differently. So no more shows.

Since I did print some 5×7 and 8×10 photos with mat boards for shows, I need to get rid of them ASAP! So if you are interested, visit my CGS website to get a heavy discount on only those photos for a limited time.

And I guess one more thing. If you don’t hear from me via text as much, see me in person at family events or however, the reason is because I noticed that I became very bitter and depressed about/after the shows. So in order to help move on from feeling like so, I have decided to just take care of me and my kids, and stop worrying about others.
